Early on in this 2020 quarantine, we Ardvarks got our individual home studio set-ups together. Alex bought a new interface so he could record his drums. Jordan beefed up his computer to get more CPU... We were experimenting with
JamKazam.com, a website that allows you to play remotely with friends, with close to zero latency. It worked pretty well, I must say. It sure was a lot of fun.
We also emailed tracks back and forth in order to layer songs. We made backing-tracks for tunes that we'd normally perform live, so that I could then use them as accompaniment when I would do virtual open mics on Facebook. We also worked up some demos of new original music that we haven't shared yet, but will be coming soon!
After forgetting about these backing-tracks for months, I dusted them off to try and see if I could do some reconstructive surgery on them, so that maybe I could use them as the building blocks for some new tunes. Lo and behold, that's how I ended up writing this atypical Christmas tune "Waiting for This Year to End".
It certainly has been a trying year in many respects, and I think we're all ready to put it behind us. 2021 couldn't come any sooner. Sure, we kept busy. We released our first full-full-length album, we did an awesome livestream performance from Sellersville Theater, and I acquired a 1950’s Hammond B-3 (featured on this track). I even helped one of my guitar students produce his own album. You do what you can, but the band and I are so excited to get back on stage and do what we do best - make you shake it ;). To quote..myself.. from this song:
“When this is all over the band is gonna play
And I’m gonna toast to my friends on a crisp winter’s day
And say, “Merry Christmas” and hug them without fear
But right now, I’m waiting for this year to end”
Let's get there safely. Happy holidays. Here’s to a brighter 2021.
Cheers,
